Hello people,

I think it's gonna be my last post here. In fact, it's really gonna be the last post for this blog. This post is just gonna be an update for the seniors who are unsure of what had really happened in Prefects.
This Fuhua Prefects blog, www.fuhuaprefects.blogspot.com, would cease operation from the 10th batch of Prefects onwards after the decision was made by the new teacher in-charge for Fuhua Prefects, Mrs Angeline Chan.
All updates would be posted via the Fuhua Prefects Facebook group, click HERE to proceed on to the new Facebook group for the latest updates.
In addition, Mrs Chan have also announced that the official name for Fuhua Prefects would be changed to FUHUA PREFECTORIAL BOARD (instead of Fuhua Prefectorial COUNCIL).

The 9th batch of EXCOs would also like to congratulate the following Secondary 3 Prefects who have officially stepped up as the 10th batch of EXCOs.

Ammendments on the DUTY LIST

Dear Prefects,

Due to the fact that most prefects on duty during Fridays have CCAs, they are not able to do detention duties. Therefore I have swapped some Sec 2s from the Friday and Thursday duty schedule to rectify this problem.

Therefore, please note that these Sec 2s were originally on duty every Thursdays. However, they will be swapped into Friday.

Duty List (Term 1 2011)

Dear Prefects,

As you all know, our new Prefectorial Council overall teacher in-charge Mrs Angeline Chan has decided to revamp the Prefects Duty system. The changes are as followed:

Old System: Only selected prefects are required to be involved in the Prefects Duty every term and they will be assigned to different duties.
New System: All Prefects are required to be involved in the Prefects Duty for every term.

Old System: Prefects are to carry out the same duty everyday till the end of the term.
New System: Prefects are only required to carry out the duty on a specific day every week and are allowed to roster themselves to try out different duties every week.

Old System: EXCOs are to be duty mentors for 2 weeks and 2 Senior Prefects are assigned to ensure that the duty is carry out smoothly everyday.
New System: EXCOs are to supervise and make sure that the duty is carry out smoothly everyday. 5 Senior Prefects and 5 Prefects are selected as Group Leaders and Assistant Group Leaders respectively and they are in-charge of assigning duties to their group members.

Old System: Prefects are to be in school uniform when they are on duty.
New System: Prefects that are on duty for the day are to be in FORMAL school uniform with SCHOOL TIE throughout the WHOLE DAY IN SCHOOL.

If you are still unclear about the new Prefects' Duty system, please feel free to approach any of the EXCOs.

Prefects' Camp 2010

Dear Prefects,

Please report to the Study Area tomorrow for Prefects' Camp at 8am sharp. The reporting attire will be FULL P.E. ATTIRE.
It is important that you bring a set of DARK COLOURED T-SHIRT (preferably black, dark blue or brown) because you will be involved in water activities (you should get the reason why you are required to be in dark coloured attire, especially for the girls). Please try to bring the one which is school-related, if you do not have one then it's ok for you to bring home clothes. For the Muslim girls, you are allowed to wear track pants. =)

Prefects' Camp 2010 Packing List

Dear Prefects,
This is the list of items that you are required to bring for the Prefects' Camp (29 December 2010 - 30 December 2010).

1. 4 sets of school related tees (Note: 1 Set MUST be dark coloured)
2. Undergarments (Note: Enough for 2 days 1 night)
3. Slippers / Sandals
4. Toiletries (e.g. toothbrush, toothpaste, towel, etc.)
5. Sleeping Bag
6. Night wear / Jacket (Note: Optional)
7. Plastic bags (Note: For soiled clothes)
8. 4 pairs of socks
9. Personal Medication (Note: It is important that you bring your own medication as we won't be able to provide you with any)
10. Torch light
11. Umbrella / Raincoat / Poncho
12. 1.5 litres plastic water bottle

Please note that:
- You are not allowed to bring any electronic devices except for mobile phones.
- You are advised to bring less than $20 as all meals will be provided.
- Towels will be needed for shower after wet activities.
- Standard school rules and prefect attire still apply throughout the whole camp.
- The standard of attire must kept up to standard.

Please note that the price of the orientation t-shirt has been changed to $16.50. We will be collecting $0.50 from each of the Prefects for the Prefects' Fund. Hence, for those who have already paid the $20.00 to me for the orientation t-shirt, you will get a $3.00 refund.
For those who have not paid for the orientation t-shirt ($16.50), prefects' fund ($0.50 - for those who have paid $20.00 need not to be worried about this.) and prefects' camp ($9.00), please kindly do so during the next meeting.

Prefects' Duty List (Term 4 2010)

Dear Prefects!

Woots! It's the September School Holiday!
You all must be enjoying your life like mad now.
However, not to forget, the new Prefects' Duty List for Term 4!!

Before you take a look at the new duty list (in case some of you didn't turn up for today's General Meeting), here are are some of the pointers to take note.

This duty list for Term 4 2010 will take effect from 13 September 2010 (Monday) onwards.

(There are some changes to the duty of Duty ICs and Duty Mentors, please read it carefully!)
Names that are highlighted in YELLOW in the Duty List are the Duty ICs.

Make sure that all the Prefects who are on duty are present.
Monitor and guide their fellow prefects during the duty when they encountered problems.
Allocate jobs for the duty.
Report to the Head of Administration (which is me) immediately when Prefects are absent and made a mistake when performing the duty.

Names that are highlighted in GREEN in the Duty List are the EXCO Mentors.
From this term, we have decided to change Duty Mentors to EXCO Mentors. The EXCO Mentors are selected based on their experience on a particular Prefects' Duty.

Help Prefects to familiarize themselves with the duty and guide them on what they are suppose to do.
Impart the knowledge regarding the new systems of the duty to the Prefects on duty.
Make sure that Prefects on duty are to take their duties seriously and learn as much as they can from them.
The Duty Mentors will only be available to help the Prefects on duty till the end of Term 4 Week 2 (24 September 2010, Friday).

A hard copy of the Prefects' Duty List (Term 4 2010) is now available on the Notice Board outside Prefects' Room. Please feel free to take a look and use it for future reference.

If you are still puzzled on what you are suppose to do, please feel free to contact me to clear any doubts.

Please remember to hand in the Prefects' Duty Report & Reflection on Monday morning when you come for attire check. Please submit a quality piece of report and reflection and treat it seriously. It seems like you all are quite interested having a RED or PURPLE tee! What about the rest? Please feel free to leave your comments and suggestions in the tagboard!

Dear Prefects,

The Duty List for this term have been improvised after several intense discussion with Mdm Yee, the Secretary as well as the Admin Head.
Hence, several changes have been made to the duty list for this term.
Duty ICs which are highlighted in YELLOW are to take note of the new changes, and to inform the Admin Head of those who are absent from the duty.

For those who are going to be affected by the new duty list, you should have received a SMS by now. For those who did not receive any, congratulations, you are saved!

Before you hold your breath and start crossing your fingers,
I would like to explain some pointers to you all.
READ THE FOLLOWING CAREFULLY!

- Prefects are to follow the old Prefects' Duty List (Term 2 2010) on 28 June 2010 (Monday).

Important Notices:

Date: 18 June 2010
Time: 1pm - 8pm (Directly after Stepping Down Ceremony)
Venue: Taman Jurong Greens
Meeting Point: Lakeside MRT Station (Outside 7-Eleven)
Meeting Timing: 1pm (Latest 1.15pm)

Please meet Yee Jia Xin at the meeting point by the meeting time. She will lead you all to the actual venue for the rainbow party.
Latecomers will not be entertained. Latercomers will be expected to find the way themselves to the actual venue.
Please bring at least $5. The actual cost is not confirmed yet and we will collect the money from you all on that day.
Please bring ONE set of extra clothing. The colour of the clothing may not be necessary to go according to the colours of your rainbow party grouping.
You are expected to dress according to the colour of the grouping. You will only need to change after the whole event.
You are not advised to bring any electronic devices such as PSP, MP3, etc. You will only need to bring along your wallet and mobile phones.

Updates on Prefects' Matters

Hello Prefects!

1. All Secondary 2 and Secondary 3 Prefects have to update their home number to Yong Lay as soon as possible. This is to facilitate the process of contacting Prefects in future if we are unable to contact them via their mobile phone numbers. Please send a sms to Yong Lay with your name and home number as soon as possible.

2. The new relay system for the year 2010 - 2011 is available for download. The relay system file is encrypted with a password to protect the privacy of the Prefects. The password will be the same as the one used for the online voting. If you are not sure of the password, please do not hesitate to contact Yong Lay for the password.
Prefects have to take note of their own relay masters. If there is any error in the relay system (e.g. change of mobile phone number), please update Yong Lay as soon as possible.
Please be warned that you are NOT ALLOWED to leak the password out to any outsiders and it is only meant for your own use.

Dear Prefects,

Please note that this coming Friday, 11 June 2010, there will be a General Meeting for ALL Prefects in the AVA Room. The General Meeting will be from 9am - 11am.

After the General Meeting, the Secondary 2 & Secondary 3 Prefects have to stay back from 12pm - 3pm for Student Leaders' Investiture Rehearsal. A lunch break will be given to them from 11am - 12pm.

Please take note that attendance is COMPULSORY. Disciplinary actions will be taken towards those who are unable to provide us with a valid reason for their absence. If you are absent on that day, please provide us with a medical certificate or parent's letter.

Ai Jing - Executive Council Member

Being a prefect means opportunities, work, responsibilities and fun. It also means a temperamental predominance of courage over timidity, or the appetite for adventure over the love of ease. It has invariably been a bonus to me to be able to be a prefect, for the prefectorial council has taught me many invaluable lessons.

I vividly remember the moment I learnt that I was going for the prefect interview. I was shocked but also elated at the same time. I went for the interview shortly after the notice. I was pretty reticent and lacked confidence so I made a mess out of it as I was having butterflies in my stomach then. However, I cherished the hope that I would get in and just like how I was nominated, I made it! I was overwhelmed by euphoria for I have often thought of it as a privilege to be part of the council.

From then on, life was never the same. I met awesome people and befriended them. I was given opportunities to try new things and learn to be a leader. It is from these opportunities that made me into a better, a more confident and refined person.

What is opportunity? It means work, but in the prefectorial board, it means to work and have fun at the same time. I remember how excited I was when I was asked for the first time to do the meet-the-parents session. I did volunteered to do double shift and I did it without feeling a tinge of fatigue. Frankly speaking, I looked forward to do any duty.

When I was in Secondary 2, I helped out in the Records Challenge which was a national challenge that involved the entire school. That was indeed a wonderful experience and I truly enjoyed myself. I watched how my seniors did their duties ardently and the kind of enthusiasm they showed in their cheerleading. I was so impressed and motivated by them! I told myself, “that’s the kind of leader I want to be!”

However, the prefectorial council is not all about fun and play, the duties entrusted to us demand a certain amount of responsibility from us too. We must be responsible to every action we take in everything we do.

There’s time to play and there’s time to be serious. When it comes to planning and discussion, we need to be serious and active in providing constructive ideas. That’s basically how we learn and grow.

I’m proud to be a prefect!

I vaguely recall the time at the end of my secondary 1 school year when my form teacher told me to go for the Prefects interview. At that point of time, I was extremely against being a Prefect. I told myself that I had no interest whatsoever of becoming a Prefect and only went for the interview because my teacher insisted. However, on the interview day, when I was called into the room for my interview, I believe my perspective of Prefects totally changed. I remember how the 3 Exco Prefects interviewing me carried themselves, the way they behaved for the short while I met them, and the way they spoke to me. Although we spoke for a little less then 5 minutes, I left the room respecting them, and the Prefectorial Council as well. I suddenly felt inspired by them to become a Prefect to serve the school.

However, when I did become a Prefect, a Prefect on probation (POP) that is, I started learning that being a Prefect was not just about serving the school and doing Prefect duties. One of the greatest joys of becoming a Prefect was that you got to make a lot of new friends. Firstly, I got to know all the other Prefects in my level and we became good friends and a bonded group as the years went by. These friends whom you work and serve with will be so bonded with you that you would probably remember them for life. Whether it was for the good or for the worse, we enjoyed ourselves when times were good and when things got difficult, we stood together and took on challenges that came our way.

Along the way, I learnt new skills as well, for example, how to raise a flag (Yes, believe me, I felt very proud of myself the first time I learn how to do it!) and maybe how to control a crowd (of rowdy students in the detention room), how to cooperate with your fellow Prefects, communication skills, teamwork, responsibility as well as the experience you get from the time you spend serving as a Prefect which would serve you well for life. Also, the camps that we had to attend helped me develop myself better by arming me with knowledge regarding leadership and the skills a leader should have. These camps were also fun and memorable and being a Prefect, you would receive all sorts of opportunities to go for camps all over Singapore.

The Prefectorial Council also organizes school events such as Teacher’s day, Be Yourself Day and the like and there is a lot of behind-the-scene planning and meetings for these events. Each event is painstakingly proposed to the school and when it is accepted, all the Prefects have to come together in the planning of the event. However, I have to say that it was definitely satisfying to see the events successful and that all the hard work and time spent was worthwhile.

Finally, I have to say that I have enjoyed the entire process of being a Prefect and it has changed my mindset about life for the better. Now we more friends, skills, knowledge and experience, I feel that I have become more confident and am ready to take anything life has to throw at me head on! Prefects rule! (:

Hello Prefects, I have not posted here in quite a while!

Before, I post up the new Duty List for Term 2, Year 2010,

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING CAREFULLY:
(I am posting this large in case some of you might scroll over this part. Please don't!)

First of all, I would like to explain the roles of the Duty ICs and Duty Mentors.

As you can see in the Duty List, the Duty Mentors are highlighted in green.

The roles of the Duty Mentors are to help the Prefects who are doing the duty this term. The reason I have allocated Duty Mentors for most of the morning duties is so that the Prefects doing the duties in this term will be able to know what to do for the duties, in case they are doing it for the first time. For example, some changes have been implemented for Latecoming Duty, and have been in effect only since last term. Hence, it is very important that the Duty Mentor impart the knowledge regarding the new systems to the Prefects doing the duty this term.

The Duty Mentors are to only help with the Prefects doing this term till the end of Term 2 Week 2 (2 April 2010, Friday). In the meantime, I would like to urge all Prefects to take their duties seriously and learn as much as they can from the Duty Mentors.

Next - the Duty ICs are highlighted in yellow.

The Duty ICs are in charge of taking attendance during duty - namely, taking note of who has reported for duty. They are also responsible for reporting the attendance to me (Hui En).

Finally, do take note that the new Duty List takes effect on 24 March 2010, Wednesday.

I understand that this post might be a little confusing. Feel free to approach me personally if you wish to clarify your doubts. :)

There are just a few announcements.
Firstly, This coming saturday(13/3) is Our Homecoming Day. We need at least 20 prefects down to serve in this event. It will be from 1pm to 3pm. Please volunteer yourself, especially those who stay near school.

Secondly, this Friday is out Monitor and Monitress Investiture. This is the first year we are having Monitor and Monitress Investiture, so please show your support for our brother and sister in term of student leadership.

Being a prefect has not been an easy task for me but it has certainly changed my life greatly. I remember when I first got the news that I was nominated as a prefect, I was really shocked because I was not the type of person who would be chosen as one. However, I still went for the interview with a hopeful heart, thinking that this would be a good chance to try out something new. I was really nervous when I went for the interview, nevertheless, I answered their questions and went home hoping that I had made it. A few days later, I got the news – I was a prefect.

From then on, things were different. I had prefect duties and had a shiny badge on my uniform. I went through investitures, made new friends and organised numerous school events. The path has not been easy for me as I had to juggle my CCA, my studies and prefects altogether. There had been a number of times when I actually decided to quit prefects but after a meeting, I realised that maybe it was worthwhile being in the prefectorial council. Last year, when I was chosen to go for the executive council interview, I got the shock of my life. I was someone who always kept a low profile and I was never assigned jobs that bore a huge responsibility. Besides, I had never done anything glorious or outstanding. Still, I went to the interview and hoped for the best and surprisingly, I was chosen.

The prefectorial council has always been perceived as a place where we have fun and do interesting things such as planning school events. However, others never really considered the tears and sweat we have shed to run a successful event or to sit down and have fun. They never really thought that planning an event could be such hard work but well, it certainly is. After the orientation, I found out that it is not easy to ensure that a huge event goes smoothly. It requires teamwork and effort and the co-operation of everyone. When one thing goes wrong, everything seems to go wrong.

As prefects, we should do our utmost best to lead the school with pride and glory. Not everyone is given that privelege and while we have been given this honour, we should not misplace it. As prefects, we should set a good example for the rest and most importantly, we should be proud to be a prefect. What’s the point of being a prefect when you don’t like the job?

Whatever it is, we should lead the school but have fun at the same time. Don’t treat it as a burden but as a task given to us, and only us. Good luck to the next batch and all the best! I LOVE BEING A PREFECT!

Ming Hui – Senior Prefect

Being a Prefect is not all about duty and responsibility, it comes with fun too, lots of fun . A prefect is special in many ways. By the time you know that you are being choosen as a prefect , you know that you process skills that not all students have.

Of course, to be a prefect, you need to have responsibility, it is one of the most important requirement. You will also need commitment and have a good attitude. What I mean by responsibility? Very simple, when a job is given to you , you do it . It is your responsibility when you receive the job. Commitment is very important. We need all prefects in order for our job to be well done. 1 less prefect will increase the difficulty of our job greatly, everyone is important to the council , so we really need prefects to be very commited. Last but not least, we need to have good attitude. Hand in you homework on time, do respect your teachers, and of course, do what is right rather than what is popular. When doing things, you got to put your heart into doing it , if not you might as well not do it. We must not only have good attitude in school, but also outside of school. We don’t want any two sided people in the council, we are prefects, not spies.

Overall joining the prefectorial council changed my life. I got to take part in many fun programmes, like helping out in our seniors prom night . We also get to plan a lot of events. Events like Teachers Day, Valentine's Day, Secondary 1 Orientation Camp… etc , are all planned by the prefects, being a prefect make us special. In the council , you can make new friends. I am in the Normal Academic, so I have less friends. But after joining the council, I met more friends, and learn more things.

In summary, I am happy to be a prefect. If you are choosen to be a prefect, cherish it. You may not have a chance to be one anymore in the future. And whatever things you do in the council, have faith , Because “ Faith will move a mountain.”

The names highlighted in green will be the Duty Mentors. They are supposed to help the juniors familiarise themselves with the duty, and also teach them what to do. This is in case the Sec 3s have not had any experience in the duty they are allocated to before.

The names highlighted in yellow are the Duty ICs. They are responsible for reporting the attendance to the Head of Admin (that would be me). Additionally, they are also supposed to allocate jobs for duties with more people, e.g. Latecoming and Patrolling.

Flag-raising
Report at the Parade Square by 7.20 AM with the school flag and national flag. As of now I am not too sure if we are having morning assembly in the classroom on Wednesdays. However, whenever there is rain or when morning assemblies are held in the classroom, the pledgetaker is to report at the General Office to say the pledge.

Latecoming
Report at the Front Porch by 7.20 AM or 8.20AM on Wednesdays.

Patrolling
Report at the 1st Floor, Spiral Staircase by 7.20 AM, or 8.20AM on Wednesdays.

I find that being a prefect is not an easy job. I needed to balance my studies, prefect and my CCA (robotics) properly so that I do not neglect any of them in the end. It was like balancing a basketball on your head and hopping around on one foot. I was lucky that I managed to scrape through year 2 of my secondary life.

Being a prefect is like being with a large group of friends in which all of us groom one another and shape us up to become leaders. We are also like a ‘company’ in the school organizing events and carrying them out. From the ideas that we suggested to the end product, it requires a whole lot of planning, compromises, leadership and determination to overcome any obstacle in your way.

By going through all the twists and turns in the life of the prefects, you will be ‘battle hardened’ to take on any other task that may come your way in the future. Be appreciative of what you have and what you will receive in the future. Make sure you remember the values of the prefects and make your own rules along the way. Stick to them and you are good to go!!!

Nicole Boon – Senior Prefect

In Secondary One, I always wanted to be a prefect. I didn’t know why, but I didn’t want to be just some mundane individual adding to the student count in the school. I wanted to be able to contribute to school. I wanted to be somebody.

I’ve always been that kind of person who prefers to keep to herself and wallow in a world of fictional characters (as you all know). I really wanted to be able to open up and know more people. That kind of thing.

I still remember my Prefect interview vividly. I was feverish at that time, but I didn’t tell my parents. I knew they’d stop me from going. I was determined to go for that interview. I remember just sitting there, outside the gaudy Prefect room door, head in my hands, all alone. I was early after all. And just by thinking about all the unfamiliar faces—the possible failure that loomed ahead, I scared the bejeezers out of myself.

I remember sitting on one of the blue wheely chair things, my legs aching, my head throbbing from the fever. I was also nursing a slight cold. Monotonous replies to questions like “Name?”, “Class?”

First question: Are you interested in becoming a prefect? I admit, I was desperate. “Yes! Of course,” there was a sort of sick desperation in my answer.

Why do you want to be a prefect? A blank. Improvise! Improvise! I urged myself. “I…want to be able to contribute positively to the school. I was a prefect before and I think I’d make a…good leader.” Something along the lines of that. I reprimanded myself inwardly. Too egoistic.

I remember this question: What are your ambitions? Perhaps it was the fever. Perhaps it was the answer hidden deep in my psyche. A politician. I said that. Yes. And I went on with the interview, sick to my stomach, talking about the politician I was supposedly going to be and all the nation building I was going to do. As I think about it, it was a pretty stupid answer.

But of course there were always times where I felt that the Prefects were lacking in more ways than one. I’m not going to say what of course. I did consider quitting at some point. I mean, I was rather unpopular for the first few years. But now, I guess I’m making more friends. I’m getting better. I’m attending more meetings.

And I’ve got all my lovely juniors to play with.

Now, I definitely don’t regret joining the prefects. My experiences there (ok this is clichéd) have definitely made me more confident in planning events. I can see a definite improvement from the time I was organizing games for the leadership camp and now.

From my perspective, the Prefects have really helped me gain invaluable experience. I am improving. Thus I would like to thank everyone there. You guys rock.

Hui En - Executive Council Member

As everyone would know, being a Prefect is not easy. When I was in Secondary 1 I didn’t even expect to be nominated as a Prefect, much less selected to be one. Many of my classmates were also shocked that I was chosen to be a Prefect as well. I recall clearly that one of my classmates even said, “She is a Prefect? Ha! She ought to show some self-discipline first before disciplining others.”

Admittedly, I was, in many aspects, not what one would call an ideal Prefect. First of all, my attire and grooming was bad – I barely ever pinned up my fringe and my skirt was shorter than what was acceptable. On top of that, I wasn’t the best student – my results were mediocre, I never ever studied at all and I often handed in my work late. I had a bad attitude (i.e., attitude problem) and had very few friends.

However, being in the Prefectorial Council has really groomed me into a better person. I strived to work harder in my studies and started to actually study. I started rectifying my attire and grooming.

I am also thankful for many of the good things that the Prefectorial Council has brought to my life. It has given me tons of opportunities and experiences that are not usually open to other people, and by joining the Council I have become more sociable and made lots of friends.

Being a Prefect is tough, yes. Have there been times that I’ve contemplated quitting the Council? Absolutely. But in retrospect, I am 100% glad I didn’t. I am proud to be a Prefect, and I hope that this is the spirit everyone would have too.

The small things you do daily can have a huge cumulative effect over a period of time. It isn’t that hard to show your commitment to the Council, all you have to do is put in a little more effort. Wear your badge, turn up for events as much as you can, maintain a positive attitude, and you’ll be good to go. :)

Benjamin Chia – Senior Prefect

The Prefectorial Council is one place where I had lot of fun and learnt many things. It is not that easy to find a group of people whom you can communicate effectively with. The Prefectorial Council is the place, where everything becomes clearer and clearer as time goes.

Let me elaborate on why things become clearer. In the Prefectorial Council, we get to see things from a very different point of view. You’d have to agree with me, many of you didn’t know the true reason behind several school policies until you’ve entered the council. We get to see the true antagonist and protagonist of the school – who they are, what they are, what they do, why they do. And all these knowledge aren’t all that apparent to the normal student population. And the sole reason of why we are involved in all these “behind-the-scene” projects is simple – We’re SPECIAL.

We, Prefects, have been sifted through 280 pupils per batch, and having less than 30 pupils emerging to be Prefects. These people are special as they met criteria to become a potential leader. And the Prefectorial Council is place where they can express their leadership potential, as well as bringing their leadership capability to a greater height. With all this special privileges and opportunities, we are more exposed to management, analyzing and manipulation of situations. And analyzing and manipulation of situation is something that makes people broaden their perspective.

I realized something important as well. Sometimes I do wonder, “Whatever happened to passion?” Passion is something that kept me going in both my CCA (Band) as well as the Prefects. From what I’ve observed in Fuhua, passion is definitely something that is lacking not just in the Prefects, but the whole student population. My parents have been persistently asking me to quit Prefects, as well as rejecting the post of Student Conductor in Band. Call me a disobedient child, but it is the passion in me that forbade me to accept their suggestions. I don’t know if it is just me, but passion is one powerful source of inspiration. But it is something that many do not possess, and simply belongs to the “go-with-the-flow” category. I urge any one reading this to be more decisive and go for what you think is right and not what others want, on appropriate occasions of course. Don’t go all stubborn and insist that you want 1 + 1 to be equals to 5 just because you think it is right. Quote from Lee Kuan Yew “Do what is right, not what is popular.”.

Just a short summary; be proud to be a prefect, take pride in what you do in the name of Fuhua Prefectorial Council. Each individual have their own ways of leading, nevertheless, having a broad perspective is a must. Passion is important in whatever thing you are doing, and always consider things from all perspective and eventually derive at the right decision, and not simply going with the flow.

In this month, we have done quite a number of events, namely the Prefects’ Investiture and Teachers’ Day cum Aces day. It is unfortunate, that our Prefects’ Investiture has been forced to be pushed back till 2^nd September, which is also 2 days after our Teachers’ Day cum Aces day due to the H1N1 outbreak. Also, due to the “O” levels oral exam in the hall, we didn’t have time for a full rehearsal. However, we showed our resilience by not giving up and making the best out of the last rehearsal in the Aesthetic Room. The investiture went quite smoothly despite some minor mistakes. And I apologize that we had to make the sec 2 prefects squeeze like there’s no tomorrow too. Hope you all enjoyed the investiture though. =X The best part was the buffet wasn’t it?

Teachers’ day cum Aces day was fun. Everyone enjoyed leading the whole school to dance? Thanks to our dance cheographer, Benjamin Chia(Head SP), we have had such fun dance steps. It was a very nice experience. We play hard and worked hard. I remember vividly seeing us sweat like no tomorrow, carrying the canteen tables from the canteen to the Indoor Sports Hall. Not easy not easy.*APPLAUSE*

During these events, everyone experiences different things. No matter if it’s joy or sorrow, success or failure. Remember it and make full use of the experiences. Reflect on it and learn from it. The bridge between “experience” and “learning” is reflection. After that, please do remember to share your experiences and lessons learnt with everyone. Such as what has been said in the last part of the prefects’ pledge, “I belong to the Prefectorial Council, and I will respect my fellow Prefects. We work together, in strength and unity.” Remember to give constructive feedbacks to each other. :)

And lastly to end off, I would like to raise a serious issue. The prefects’ basic discipline is deteriorating a lot. Won’t elaborate on it but everyone please do a self-check on yourselves.

Gan Jing Yong – Senior Prefect

The prefects are a group of leaders selected exclusively to lead the school. There are many different types of prefects. Those who lead by example and those who lead with an iron fist. Of course, the ones that lead by example are those we are striving to be. No matter how diverse the prefects are, we are unique. And we are a group. Therefore, the prefects are a family.

Everybody is important and cannot be done without. So nobody should ever think that they are dispensable and thinks that we could manage without them and not participate. However, the prefects could work individually or in small groups as well. This is also why although none of us are dispensable, none of us are indispensable as well.

Due to this fact, I reckon that the prefects, from the executive council to the new prefects, should participate as actively as possible and not miss any prefectorial duties or meetings. This is what we were selected for. This is why we are special. And this is why we should be responsible and independent.

The prefects have been a joy so far and I love being in the prefectorial council. All of us have work together with the best of our abilities and I hope that all of us could strive to do better.

Stepping Down Ceremony

Dear Prefects,
This coming Wednesday, 26/8/09, is the stepping down of our seniors.

All Prefects MUST attend. You will be excused from whatever you have, lessons...CCA...

All Prefects MUST gather in study area BY 2 20pm, with proper attire. Or else you will have to face serious disciplinary action.

The stepping down ceremony will start at 2 30pm sharp.

After the ceremony, sec 2 and sec 3 are required to stay back for investiture rehearsal. It will end around 5 30.If we do a good one, we will end early.

The Attire for all Prefects is the formal uniform, blazers, tie and black shoes. (Stockings for the girls are not required)

There are a few things you need to know.

Firstly, Attire check will resume on Monday(24/8/09).

Secondly, Monday(24/8/09) 7am, there will be a meeting for all prefects. Disciplinary actions will be taken to those who are late or absent without valid reasons.

Lastly, our Stepping Down ceremony will be on Wednesday 2.30pm-3.30pm. It is compulsory for all prefects to attend unless you have valid and solid reasons. Valid reasons don’t include tuition, family lunch/dinner , Piano lesson, "suddenly sick" ,etc.
They are our seniors. Without them, there would'nt be us too.

Hello! I'm Ng Jia Xin from 3s2(: I am posting about what I feel about the prefects!

Prefects. To me, it means a group of people working hand in hand to do well in the projects the school gave us and to have fun.

Yes, prefects have fun, a lot of fun in fact! We paint banners for different events, do ACES day dances, being crazy and best of all, being together in a big group, doing our best to serve the school. Some people feel that the prefects are just some useless group of people, but we have to prove them wrong! We have that potential that is why the previous batches chose us as prefects! We have to show other people what we can achieve what we can do well and be proud of what we do.

I hope that more prefects can put in more effort for the Prefectorial council. The Teacher's day event is coming soon, I hope everyone will be part of that event and do well in that event! We will have fun too!

p.s the ACES day dance is nice! Must show the school the nice dance nicely! x:

So prefects, do well in whatever we do and let ourselves be proud that we are in this council called the PREFECTORIAL COUNCIL!. :D

Looking back, I realized how much we have done during the past few months, from the Sec 1 orientation to Valentine’s day, to our camp in March to planning for the recent events such as the Teachers’ Day celebration together with ACES day and lastly, our investiture. These wouldn’t have been complete if it wasn’t for the joined effort of each and every one of us – each and every person in the council.

Everyone is essential to the progress of the council. Each of us has a part to play, be it the executing the job, planning the events or even just supporting one another, giving each other the strength to handle the problems one may be facing. We’re all different, different people, coming from different backgrounds, having different mindsets, strengths and weaknesses, but when we come together, our strengths complement one another, our differences are to be resolved, because we know that together, we can achieve more, go further and accomplish greater things. We’ve come so far and have done so much, together.

A house divided cannot stand. The house is like the council, as long as we are together, we can be stronger, and we can be built to last, not faltering in hard times, and to be stronger than we already are.

We are all important to the council. We’re one body, working together to serve the school, to allow the council to function properly. We’re prefects, we’re built to last – our energy never dies, so let us work together, and let our energy take us to greater heights! :D

Hereby, we would like to thank the Senior Prefects for their relentless hard work, dedication and passion for the past years. Congratulations to the recipients of the Special Commendation for your outstanding performance!

Special Commendation Recipients

Chen Hui Qi
Chen Hui Qi is a very committed Senior Prefect with great potential, able to address the crowd confidently. She is able to carry out a task responsibly and efficiently. She has been carrying out her duty with passion ever since she became a Prefect. As an Orientation Leader, she has served in the Fuhua Secondary One Orientation 2008 and 2009. She also gives her unwavering support to the Council by being present at all Council meetings. She is well-mannered, greeting the teachers at all times. She has performed at the Secondary One Orientation as a pianist for the song Endless Love. She has also been an Overall I/C for one of the parent-teacher meeting sessions.

Dyan Hidayat
Dyan Hidayat has been a confident and creative Senior Prefect, always offering his innovative ideas to the Prefectorial Council during event planning. He also initiated Be Yourself Day 2008, choreographing the ACES Day Dance for ACES Day 2008 with Gabbie, leading the school to learn the dance on the day itself. Dyan was the emcee for Fuhua Secondary One Orientation Concert, acting as Captain Jack Sparrow. He was also an Orientation Leader for the Secondary One Orientation 2008 and 2009. Dyan is able to liven up the atmosphere and heighten the atmosphere of any crowd. With his unique brand of creativity, he is a valuable asset for every event.

Gabbie Ng Mei Ee
Gabbie Ng Mei Ee has been an enthusiastic Senior Prefect, offering her full support for all school events. She planned the Be Yourself Day 2008 (in conjunction with Teachers' Day 2008) and assisted with the banner making of Teachers' Day and Secondary One Orientation 2009. Gabbie has maintained a close relationship with the juniors and always helped them along with her experience. She cooperated with Stephanie Nah, the Liaison Head, as the Concert I/C for Secondary One Orientation 2009. Together with Dyan Hidayat, they choreographed the energetic ACES Day Dance for ACES Day 2008, leading the school to learn the dance on the day itself. As the Orientation Leader, she has served in the Orientation Secondary One 2009 actively.

Gwee Chyi Yin
Gwee Chyi Yin has demonstrated her leadership ability in different events, such as serving at the end of year Prefects' Camp 2008 as the Camp Chief. She has also served as an Orientation Leader at the Secondary One Orientation 2008 and 2009. She has contributed greatly to the preparation process of the Fuhua Valentines' Day 2008 and 2009. Together with Stephanie Nah, she has been in charge the Teachers' Day banner. She has been an enthusiastic and conscientious Senior Prefect and has set a good example to the juniors with her impeccable attire. She has been responsible for her duties ever since she became a Prefect. Her diligence has always motivated the juniors to give their best in whatever they do.

Qatrunnada Bte Mohamad Shalan
Qatrunnada Bte Mohamad Shalan is a very spontaneous and enthusiastic Senior Prefect. She does her duties conscientiously ever since she has become a Prefect. She is always punctual and is supportive in all school events. As a responsible Red Cross member, she is often appointed as the Medical I/C for many Prefect Camps and is able to rise up to any emergency that occurs. She has served as the Logistics Head during Prefects' Camp 2008, and has displayed her dedication to her duty through her efficient handling of affairs. As an Orientation Leader, she has served at the Secondary One Orientation 2008 and 2009. She also led the school to learn the ACES Day Dance.

Siti Halimatul
Siti Halimatul has been a committed Senior Prefect and actively takes part in discussions during various meetings, be it committee meetings or General Meetings. She has cooperated with Mardiana Bte Azhar, our Welfare Head, to draft up the creative design of the Fuhua Orientation T Shirt 2009. She has displayed an image of the model Senior Prefect with her up-to-standard grooming. She has served at the Secondary One Orientation 2008 and 2009 as an Orientation Leader. As a responsible Red Cross member, she is often appointed as the Medical I/C for various Prefect Camps and is always ready for any emergencies.

Yeo Si Ying
Yeo Si Ying has diligently given her unwavering support to the Prefectorial Council and does all her duties with passion. She has shown her leadership ability in various events such as at the end of year Prefects' Camp 2008 as the camp chief. She has also served as an Orientation Leader at the Fuhua Secondary One Orientation 2008 and 2009. She has contributed greatly to the preparation process of the Fuhua Valentines' Day 2008 and 2009. Dear prefects,

A few important points to take note, and do scroll down to read Felicia's post.

Firstly, our Fuhua Investiture 2009 will be postponed to Wednesday, 2 September 2009, due to the H1N1 Influenza A virus. We cannot hold assemblies on Week 2 as instructed by MOE to reduce the possible spread of the virus. The next possible time slot for our Investiture is on 2 September 2009, which is after the Teacher's Day celebrations which we will be organizing.

Secondly, regarding the post below from Felicia, please submit the excuse letters punctually as all Trainee Prefects and Prefects are still under probation until the actual investiture. Those who failed to submit on Wednesday, 8 July 2009, will earn themselves a basis for removal from the Council.

Dear prefects,

We will be collecting excuse letters from either your teachers or your parents to testify for your absence during a particular rehearsal for our investiture, depending on what your reason is.

For example: If you happen to be overseas on one of the rehearsal dates, you will have to get an excuse letter from your parents as a testament for your absence. And if you are unable to be present for a particular rehearsal due to your CCA or any other school related events, you will have to get an excuse letter from the teacher in-charge of the event.

Dear all prefects,

Instructions to heed:

1. All duties will resume on monday, 29 June 09. Please stick to the duties in term 2 for this week till the new duty roster is done. Just in case you do not know what is your duty, please take the effort to check with the exco.

[FYI, all sec 2 prefects will have to do detention duty and everyone in the council will have to go through it or had been through all these. The reason is simply because only the secondary 2 pupils' timetable can fit into the slots for detention duties, while the sec 3/4 can't possibly make it for the duty when lessons only end at 3 or 4 plus. And so, I do not wish to hear any complains regarding such issues. That shouldn't be an attitude that I should see from a leader]

2. For prefects doing flagraising and latecoming duty, please come school early to take your temperature and submit your travel declaration forms to your form teachers. Be at your respective positions by 7.15am.

3.There will be NO PATROLLING

4. Remember to BRING YOUR THERMOMETER, set a good example.

5. ATTIRE CHECK RESUMES TOMORROW!

Hi Prefects,

Here are the days for the rehearsals for the 3rd week of the school holidays.

Everyone (Sec 2 & 3 Prefects, Senior Prefects [receiving the Special Award] and Excos) are to be present for both rehearsals. It is compulsory and attendance will be taken. These two rehearsals are very very very important. So MUST come unless you have any VALID reasons.

The 1st one will be on Monday, 22nd June 09 from 1pm-6pm++ :
Attire will be any school related shirts. Those wearing school uniform must wear their badges.

The 2nd one will be on Tuesday, 23rd June 09 from 1pm-6pm++ :
Attire will be:
1. Formal uniform with tie and badge
2. Court shoes for girls
3. Stockings for girls
4. Black leather shoes for guys
5. Long pants for all guys

For the girls, you need not wear your stockings and court shoes to school. For the boys, you need
not wear your black shoes to school. You will all have time to change later, as we will be having a full run of the Investiture.

If you all don't have any of the items mentioned above, please go and borrow from your friends (e.g leather shoes for guys can be borrowed from Band, CO).

Everyone must remember the pledge. The lucky ones will be tested and if time allows, we will test everyone.

Dear prefects

Regarding the Meet-the-parent session on monday, 1 June 2009, please note that people who are doing the first shift shall report at the front porch at 3.15pm sharp, in your formal uniform, tie and a pen. As for the others doing the second shift will report at 5pm. If it happens that you have other committments on the same day, and you are unable to attend either of the shifts, could you kindly, sms me to inform me about it, telling me what's the reason for not able to turn up on that day. Dear Prefects!

I have something for you.

First, I would like to congratulate our dear secondary 3 prefects. We (current exco) have already finalised our successors and we hope that you would do us proud, not only so, but bring our Prefectorial Council to greater heights. Hopefully, soon after, other schoolmates would no longer have negative impressions of us anymore. The going-to-be senior prefects. You don't have to be sad about anything. Your posts are equally important as being in the Executive Council. Remember, whether or not, you're selected in the Executive council, everyone of you are seen as a valued member (sounds like ss, lol)

This year, we have come up with a new post: (head) senior prefect, the name of the post has not been finalised yet. Well, the (head) senior prefect is responsible for the maintenance and improvementof relationships between the Executive Council Members and Senior Prefects. One is the representative of the Senior Prefects and also the bridge that links the Executive Council Members and Senior Prefects.
